Bemoaning the plight of the poor over a plate of filet mignon in posh digs sounds like a version of what the conservative press calls "virtue signalling," which in this instance means: look here, my enlightened opinions about the poor absolve me of the egalitarian crime of being rich. Is this hypocrisy? Maybe, insofar as PR is hypocrisy. But pointing out such things publically will inevitably be met with wide social complicity in hoisting you with your own petard. It's the iceberg of polite social discourse: above the water it goes great in cocktails, below the water it sinks you.
